Many insurance plans cover periodic cleanings twice yearly. It is a good idea for a person to take advantage of their insurance often for cleanings so that they can save money, and keep their smile looking the best that it possibly can.
- Small cavities that have occurred in the past six months can also be tended to.
- Dentists can also keep an eye on the progression gum conditions, such as periodontal disease, and administer the proper treatment.
Typical Dental Check Up Procedures
A typical dental check up can be an invaluable tool for dentists to treat any tooth or gum problems that are present before they grow into larger issues.Step 1: A patient will typically have updated x rays of their teeth performed in order to update their records.
Step 2: They are then led into an exam room and asked to sit in the examination chair. A bib is typically clasped around the patient in order to protect their clothing from becoming wet. The dental technician will then notify the dentist that the patient is ready.
Step 3: The dentist will perform an examination of the patient’s mouth by studying the patient’s teeth; looking for irregularities or tooth decay. If an irregularity is found, such as a loose or missing dental filling or a cavity, is found, the dentist will inform the patient of this and advise them on what can be done to correct it. If the patient agrees to the filling insertion, or replacement, the dentist may complete it at this time, or they may schedule an additional appointment for the procedure to be completed.
Step 4: If no cavities or irregularities are found then the dentist may call in the dental technician into the room to clean the patient’s teeth while they update the patient’s chart. The dental technician may floss in between teeth, give a fluoride rinse, and offer instruction on proper brushing and flossing methods.
A dentist can typically correct a small problem that they may find at a quarterly office visit so that it does not turn into a major oral issue. It has also been proven that regularly scheduled teeth cleanings will lead to a brighter smile.
